Astana (the former Akmola) was founded in 1830 as fortification of Russian Empire. Later Akmola became the centre of trade fairs where merchants from Kazakhstan, Russia, Central Asia, India and other countries gathered to sell cattle and agricultural products. In March 1917 the Soviet Power was established in Akmola. Many changes have taken place since then. Akmola played an important role in supplying the Soviet Army with raw materials and products during the Second World War. In 1961 Akmola was renamed into Tselinograd. In 1992 the city got its name Akmola again and since October 1997 Akmola has become a new capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Later on it got its present name Astana.Astana is a modern growing city, a political, financial, economic and socio-cultural centre of the state. There are a lot of magnificent beautiful buildings, higher educational establishments, colleges, and secondary schools, hotels, banks. The sightseeing  of  Astana are very magnificent. And  we know that the symbols of Astana is Baiterek. The monument embodies the idea of the Kazakh people related to the structure of the universe. According to the legend, Baiterek is the tree of life, the destination of the sacred bird, Samruk. It takes refuge in the tree’s high crown to lay a golden egg — the sun — giving life and hope.At the same time, at the roots of the tree the hungry dragon Aydahar is hiding in attempt to eat the egg. That is how the eternal struggle between good and evil is represented. Not far from the monument flows the World River, on the banks of which Baiterek stands propping up the sky with its crown, and holding the earth with its roots. Monument Baiterek was opened in 2002 and has become a landmark in history of Kazakhstan. You know about this story.
